Working as One for a Green Recovery

Greening the Economic Recovery
When COVID-19 touched many aspects of life across the world, PAGE’s priority was to stay connected to all members of the Partnership, encouraging dialogue, embracing inter-agency collaboration and promoting capacity-building and learning opportunities.
In response to the needs expressed by governments in the early stage of the pandemic, PAGE offers targeted green recovery support to 15 of its partner countries since 2021, reinforcing countries’ responsive and forward-looking socio-economic plans to recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Two additional countries, Peru and Guatemala, requested to join this effort in 2021, with workplans in development.
The green recovery support is in addition and complementary to ongoing PAGE work in partner countries. It is made possible through a contribution of USD 7 million from the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany.
Green Recovery— The Path to Inclusive Economic Transformation
Alongside the targeted green recovery work across countries, PAGE strengthened its efforts to collaborate for a joint delivery on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate and biodiversity goals on the global level.
PAGE contributed to the development and incorporation of environmental sustainability and green economy thinking into guiding UN documents: A UN framework for the immediate socio-economic response to COVID-19; the UN Sustainable Development Group’s (UNSDG) guidance note to UN Country Teams on Economic Transformation; The UN Secretary General’s Policy Brief on The World of Work and COVID-19; and the Report of the UN Economist Network for the UN 75th Anniversary: Shaping the Trends of Our Time.
In the spirit of the United Nations Cooperation Framework, PAGE works as one — across five UN agencies, with embedded National Coordinators, government focal points, and essential connections to UN Resident Coordinators (UNRCs) to bring together economic expertise.
Green Recovery – Global Action
Embedded within its global action programme, PAGE continued its learning campaign on green recovery throughout 2021 and strengthened analytical foundations through the modelling of green recovery scenarios and an expansion of the Global Recovery Observatory.
Green Recovery – Country Support
PAGE's additional support aimed at fostering inclusive and green economic recoveries is complementary to and embedded within the ongoing country programmes.
